IRONBBRATZ, Market Gallery and TRONGATE 103 would like to invite leaders and members of arts and cultural organisations to join us to for a drink and chat to discuss alternative funding strategies for arts organisations. In these uncertain economic times, it becomes more important than ever to develop a supportive community that is strengthened by adapting to the new financial (and other) parameters that are forming. We hope that by initiating this community we can begin a discourse that helps arts organisations to create new strategies that enable us all to flourish.

Peter McCaughey and Ellie Harrison will share their views on alternative strategies that may be adopted to circumvent and add to current funding provisions. IRONBBRATZ and Market Gallery will then facilitate informal discussions amongst attendees to share suggested strategies.

We hope that this discussion becomes the first in a series of similar events that enables arts and cultural organisations to share experience, expertise and questions. After the event participants will be invited to participate in a forum on Central Station to continue discussion.

In celebration of the launch of Sue Reid Sexton’s new novel Mavis’s Shoe, IRONBBRATZ and Waverley Books are delighted to announce, ‘Art and Mavis’s Shoe’ an exhibition that addresses themes present in the novel.

Mavis’s Shoe is ‘a strong novel about the trauma of the Clydebank Blitz during the Second World War told through the eyes of a young girl, Lenny Gillespie.’

Lenny survives the bombing, but in the chaos of that night she cannot find her mum and her wee sister, Mavis. Told in an urgent, true-grit voice, the story describes the devastation of the blitz as seen through Lenny’s eyes. During her desperate search for her mum and sister, Lenny finds a shoe she thinks belongs to Mavis and it becomes her talisman in the days that follow. Lenny is forced to flee over the hills to the hut community of Carbeth in the company of a scary neighbour, Mr Tait, her old school teacher, Miss Weatherbeaten, and little Rosie, a girl who is oddly like Mavis. IRONBBRATZ Studios are located in the third floor of 84 Miller Street in Central Glasgow – just 5 minutes walk from Glasgow Central and Queen Street Rail Stations, St Enoch and Buchanan Street Subway Stations, and Trongate 103 and King Street.

We host 40 creative practitioners and one arts organisation at the moment.  We currently have 17 new studios available for immediate occupation.

Our studios range in size from 50-230 sq feet and are inclusive of heat, electricity and internet.  Other benefits included in studio rental are:  secure main entry, tea/coffee/microwave facilities, an annual members exhibition, in-house gallery programmed by The Mutual, open-crits/show and tell nights, a visual culture reading club.
